DESCRIPTION:The public is invited to attend a free program\, "Life and Times of the Atomic Bomb\," presented by Albert I. Berger at 2 p.m. on Sunday\, October 23\, in the Russell Reid Auditorium at the North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum in Bismarck. Berger will trace the history of the development of nuclear weapons through the Atomic Age and the Cold War and address questions such as: "How could events have gotten so complicated that nuclear weapons became a prospect to solving disagreements?" and "How can the use of nuclear weapons be contained?" He will explain why understanding this history is important as we consider the atomic bomb's place in the modern world and the transformation of warfare in an age of advanced technology. Berger is a history professor at University of North Dakota\, Grand Forks. He is the author of "Life and Times of the Atomic Bomb: Nuclear Weapons and the Transformation of Warfare". Since 2001 Berger has served as a board member on the State Historical Board and served as president of the board from 2007-2009.
