SUMMARY:Think&Drink: Investigating Biased Science
DESCRIPTION:In the last several years\, public discourse and scientific discourse have both focused on biases in science. Several fields\, including psychological science\, are actively grappling with popular TED talks\, best-selling textbooks\, and early-career grant applications all based on science from our past that does not stand up to new scrutiny. The "replication crisis" in several disciplines is one manifestation of these issues. How can scientists maintain the public's trust in this age of distrust in traditional sources of "truth"? Traditional scientific publishing practices are being critiqued for allegedly contributing to unethical and biased research publications by pressuring scientists toward publication. By embracing "open-access" practices\, are scientific journals doing enough to promote solid science?
