For the second year, in an effort to beautify our community and provide home-grown produce for more Bismarck residents, NDSU Extension Service-Burleigh County and Bismarck Burleigh Public Health are teaming up to offer free, portable garden boxes to low-income residents of Bismarck. In 2015, approximately 140 boxes were distributed throughout the community and are currently providing fresh produce and beautification at over 80 homes. Each box is approximately 24? by 18?, making them small enough to fit on a patio or balcony and light enough to be moved as needed. These were built by volunteers as part of the Missouri Slope Areawide United Way?s Day of Caring and will be distributed in the spring of 2016. Planting materials, including soil and seeds, will also be provided. If you would like to participate in this program, please call Peggy Netzer, NDSU Extension Agent with the Family Nutrition Program at 701-221-6865 to see if you qualify.
