Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the United States. Ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun is the main cause of skin cancer. The most dangerous kind of skin cancer is called melanoma and it is 100% preventable. Over a million cases of skin cancer are diagnosed in the US every year. Sun exposure is the most preventable risk factor for skin cancer. NDSU Extension ?
