BISMARCK, N.D. – Santa Claus will make a special appearance at Camp Hancock State Historic Site, 101 W. Main Ave. in Bismarck, on Friday, Dec. 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. The Camp Hancock museum will be open during Santa's visit, and hot cider will be provided. Santa invites children from the area to say hello and let him know what they would like for Christmas. Parents are encouraged to bring their camera for this photo op taking place in the 1881 Bread of Life Church. Meeting Santa is free but donations are welcome. Donations are used to support restoration efforts at the historic site. Photos posted to social media are encouraged to use the hashtag #hancocksanta. The 1909 Northern Pacific locomotive displayed at Camp Hancock will be lit up for the holidays from Thanksgiving through New Year’s Day. The lighted locomotive is a popular backdrop for holiday photos, with many families taking photos yearly as part of their holiday tradition. Santa at Camp Hancock and the lighting of the locomotive are sponsored by the State Historical Society of North Dakota, Bismarck Historical Society, and the Bismarck Downtown Business Association.
