The Actor's Gym
Actors need to work out just as much as an athlete! Actors need to stretch their muscles and explore the basics of their craft just as much as a football player does basic drills at every practice. There are actors in New York who struggle each month with ?Do I pay my rent of go to acting class?? nine times out of ten, acting class wins! Bebe Neuwirth of Seinfeld fame, still takes a dance class every day, as well as a voice class and a scene study class once a week and she is currently appearing on Broadway in Chicago eight times a week! DAKOTA STAGE is offering our actors in Bismarck a chance to do the same as those actors in New York. Come and join the Actor?s Gym a five week ensemble based class to get reacquainted with the basics of the craft. This will be the first of many adult education classes offered at DAKOTA STAGE in the coming months, and this class will be a prerequisite to all future ensemble classes. The Actor?s Gym will meet for 90 minutes on April 8, 15, 22, 29, and May 6 from 7pm ? 8:30pm, tuition for the class is $30.00 total. There are only ten spots in the class for actors aged 17 and up, so call now and reserve your spot. The Class will be as followed: o Week 1 ? (April 8) The Body: This class will be focused on finding a true neutral stance, where the participant holds tension in the body and face, finding a way to mentally release tension and then build physical characteristics for a character. o Week 2 ? (April 15) The Voice: This class will focus on freeing the natural voice, incorporating the head, nasal and chest resonators as well as diction work. o Week 3 ? (April 22) Magic If, Objective, Obstacle, and Tactic: this class will focus on script analysis based on the Stanislavsky system. Scenes selected on this day will be used for the remainder of the class period. o Week 4 ? (April 29) Scene Study Work: Participants will work scenes in class with side coaching and direction. Short modern scenes from Tennessee Williams, August Strindberg, Arthur Miller, Eugene O?Neil, and Anton Chekov will be used for scene study work. o Week 5 ? (May 6) Scene Study Work: Continuation of Week 4 ? it is the goal that each participant gets up in front of the class twice during the work session days. As part of The Actor?s Gym you will be one of the first members of the new Dakota Stage Limited Ensemble, Ensemble members will receive discounts on future classes, and special events at Dakota Stage Limited. The Actor?s Gym will be taught by Artistic Director Christopher Zinovitch, and all classes will meet at the Dakota Stage Limited Playhouse. For more information or to sign up call (701)258-4998 or email artdir@dakotastageltd.com. All participants must be paid in full at the time of sign up.
