Singers from the University of Mary Vocal Arts Ensemble, under the direction of Katherine Henjum, will present “Nordic Song,” a program of Norwegian folk songs and songs of Edvard Grieg. The concert will take place at 2 p.m. on Sunday, September 25, at the North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum in Bismarck. The concert is part of the State Historical Society of North Dakota’s Sensational Sundays program. Therese Kulas, soprano (East Grand Forks, Minn.), and Cole Girodat, tenor, (Kindred), junior vocal performance majors at the University of Mary, will sing the entire program in Norwegian. “The Norwegian language is a beautiful, melodic language to sing, and Grieg has a profound, deeply touching way of bringing to life through song the qualities of love, nature and the Norwegian landscape,” said Henjum. “The students have loved working on the Norwegian songs. It isn’t every day you hear the songs of Grieg, and to have the opportunity to perform them has been an enriching experience for them.” For more information contact Erik Holland, curator of education, at 701.328.2792.
