SUMMARY:NATIONAL SILENT MOVIE DAY 2021: FILMS BY ANGELA MURRAY GIBSON
DESCRIPTION:NATIONAL SILENT MOVIE DAY 2021: FILMS BY ANGELA MURRAY GIBSON. In commemoration of National Silent Movie Day\, Sept. 29\, we will feature silent films by filmmaker Angela Murray Gibson. Visitors can stop in the Russell Reid Auditorium throughout the day (9 a.m.-4 p.m.) as the films run on a loop that includes a brief "Archives in Action" video produced by the North Dakota State Archives. There will also be a virtual screening of the films on YouTube at 7 p.m. Gibson\, an independent female filmmaker\, ran a studio in her hometown of Casselton from 1921 to 1925. The two Gibson films featured\, "That Ice Ticket" (1923\, 10 minutes) and "Arrested for Life" (1923\, 21 minutes)\, are from an era when expectations for females were typically of a more domestic nature. "We felt it was important to highlight Gibson's work not only as independent North Dakota silent filmmaker\, but as a female pioneer and trailblazer of early cinema\," said Anne Loos\, audiovisual archivist for the State Historical Society of North Dakota.
