Dakota Center for Independent Living, a non-profit disability advocacy organization, has a full-time opportunity for an Independent Living Advocate in our Bismarck office.

The person filling this full-time position is responsible for providing information and referral, individual/systems advocacy training, Independent Living skills training, and representative payee services to individuals with disabilities.

An Independent Living Advocate is responsible for interacting with various community agencies and organizations to engage in systems advocacy to make a positive change for persons with disabilities.

The person filling this position must be able to assist consumers in developing their independent living goals, maintain up-to-date consumer information files, and coordinate follow-up service plans with consumers when they exit the program, if appropriate.

The Independent Living Advocate will maintain and facilitate the center's Brain Injury Support group and assist in providing community presentations on disability related topics.

The person is responsible for facilitating the center's social, recreational, and educational opportunities for the center's consumers and interested community members, along with developing the monthly consumer calendar.

An Independent Living Advocate must be an effective oral and written communicator and understand the Independent Living Philosophy and the history of the disability rights movement.

This position requires an Associate Degree in human services or a related field or two years experience working with people with disabilities. Must possess effective communication skills and the interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact with a variety of people.

Pay: $15.25 - $16.25 per hour
