Local History Award Recipient to be Honored at Open House Reception
The Heritage Profile Honor Award will be presented to Kathy Holtan Wilner (Jim Buchmiller) of Bowdon at an open house reception on Nov. 16 at 1:30 p.m. at the North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum in Bismarck. This award, bestowed by the State Historical Society of North Dakota, honors individual achievements related to North Dakota history. The Heritage Profile Honor Award identifies individuals who have made a lasting or significant contribution in extending the knowledge and understanding of the history of North Dakota, and have demonstrated long-term dedication and personal commitment in pursuit of these goals. Award recipient Kathy Holtan Wilner has documented more than 500 historic one-room schools throughout North Dakota. Wilner is the past recipient of several Cultural Heritage Grants to document and nominate schools to the National Register of Historic Places. Nominations for Local History Awards are due annually the second Friday in July. Nominations can be made any time, but those not received by the due date will be considered for awards the following year.
