Sensational Sundays Program: Documentary Film Premiere at North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum
The public is invited to the free documentary film premiere “The Mission of Herman Stern” at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 19, at the North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum in Bismarck. Herman Stern was posthumously awarded the Theodore Roosevelt Rough Rider Award in 2014 for civic contributions to North Dakota, and this film tells the unique and compelling story of this North Dakota citizen who left his mark on the world for his part in rescuing more than 125 people from Nazi Germany. The film showing will be followed by a panel discussion that includes filmmaker Art Phillips and educator Carl Oberholzer. “The Mission of Herman Stern” chronicles the actions of Stern on the international stage, telling a story of leadership, empathy, and selflessness. The historical decision made by Stern to aid more than 125 Jews fleeing Nazi Germany during a very dark moment in world history is a study of history, ethics, character, and citizenship. This historical documentary is produced by Video Arts Studios, and will be premiered at three North Dakota locations. To preview the documentary, go to themissionofhermanstern.org. This program is part of the State Historical Society of North Dakota’s Sensational Sundays program.
