Sensational Sundays: "Requiem for 9/11"
"Requiem for 9/11" will be performed by Dakota Pro Musica. This 9/11 20th anniversary commemorative concert will feature three compositions: Hollis Thoms’ “Requiem for 9/11”, Edward Elgar’s “Serenade for Strings,” and Samuel Barber’s famous “Adagio for Strings”. The three pieces are presented as a reflection of the feelings and emotions of the three days surrounding Sept. 11, 2001. The performance is free and open to the public. The concert will feature Natalie Campbell, soprano, and Jason Thoms, artistic director. Campbell teaches voice at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and has performed as a soloist and chorister with many professional vocal ensembles. She serves as the artistic director of the Sioux Falls Children’s Choir. Thoms, a professional singer and chorister, is director of choral activities at Bismarck State College and host of Dakota Sings on Prairie Public Radio. He founded Dakota Pro Musica, a non-profit performing arts organization. This performance is part of the State Historical Society of North Dakota's Sensational Sundays series. Sensational Sundays are free cultural programs that include a variety of lectures, concerts, movies, and tours.
