Wefald to Present on Navy Ships at North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum
The public is invited to “U.S. Navy Ships Named for People and Places Connected to North Dakota” presented by Bob Wefald at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 19, at the North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum in Bismarck. This illustrated lecture will include images of specific ships and familiarize the audience with the size and function of various classes of warships. Included will be a short video clip of the sinking of the SS John Burke by a kamikaze strike. Wefald is a retired North Dakota state district court judge who also served as North Dakota attorney general. A retired captain in the Navy Reserve, he served one tour off the coast of Vietnam in 1966 as a gunnery officer on a guided missile destroyer. Wefald is a 1964 graduate of the University of North Dakota and a 1970 graduate of the University of Michigan Law School. This program is part of the State Historical Society of North Dakota’s Sensational Sundays program. Sensational Sundays are free programs sponsored by the State Historical Society that include a variety of lectures, concerts, movies, and tours that provide engaging, educational, historic, and cultural information.
