The annual Ice Cream Social, a free family program of music, history, and refreshments, will be held Sunday, Aug. 13, from 12-4 p.m. at the Former Governors’ Mansion State Historic Site, 320 East Ave. B, Bismarck. Seating will be available, but the public is welcome to bring lawn chairs or blankets. This event is sponsored by the State Historical Society of North Dakota and the Society for the Preservation of the Former Governors’ Mansion. This year’s event celebrates the history of the West and the people and places connected to the history of the site. The mansion is open for self-guided tours during the social. Throughout the afternoon, attendees can enjoy free hotdogs and ice cream. Theo Art School is providing face painting from 12 to 3 p.m. Children can also participate in lawn games and receive free potted flowers while supplies last.
