Join us for Capitol Shakespeare's production of "The Glass Menagerie". The performance is free and open to the public Written by playwright Tennessee Williams, “The Glass Menagerie” premiered in 1944 and was Williams’ first popular success. Williams described it as a memory play, it is sentimental and “omits some details; others are exaggerated, for memory is seated predominantly in the heart.” Through the lens of the poet Tom’s memory, we meet him, his mother Amanda, a faded Southern belle, and his painfully shy sister Laura. Set in Depression-era St. Louis, each family member struggles to pursue their own happiness despite their means.
