Preserving Your Family Collection
Are you overwhelmed by the idea of organizing your family photographs? Did you inherit your parents’ love letters and don’t know what to do next? Should you scan them? Photocopy them? Do you want to know how to best preserve your family’s papers so they can be shared with your relatives? On Oct. 15 from 1:30-2:30 p.m., Archives Specialist Emily Ergen and Head of Technical Services Stephanie Baltzer Kom will present some strategies for organizing your family’s collection – whether it includes photographs, letters, certificates, audio or video recordings, documents, or books – and making items within it easy to find and share with your family. We will discuss at-home methods to ensure that important items are preserved, touch on recommended archival storage supplies, outline advantages to various indexing techniques and weigh the pros and cons of scanning. The event is free. Registration is limited, so please RSVP at preserving-family-collection.eventbrite.com by Oct. 7.
