Sensational Sundays - Pyrography: Playing with Fire
Join us as artist Julie Bender presents “Pyrography: Playing with Fire.” Pyrography is an ancient art form in which an image is burned onto natural surfaces such as wood and paper. Bender uses modern tools to achieve subtle shading and fine detail, creating artful portrayals of animal and human subjects. She will discuss her unique story, artistic vision, technique and style, evolution of her medium, as well as the subjects that inspire her. Bender’s work in pyrography is self-taught and has evolved significantly since beginning in 2002. An award-winning artist, her work is juried into internationally-renown shows and exhibitions, is purchased by museums, and is privately collected throughout the world. This program is a partnership between the State Historical Society of North Dakota and Bismarck Art and Galleries Association. It is part of the State Historical Society of North Dakota's Sensational Sundays series. Sensational Sundays are free cultural programs that include a variety of lectures, concerts, movies, and tours.
