Williams described it as a memory play, it is sentimental and “omits some details; others are exaggerated, for memory is seated predominantly in the heart.” Through the lens of the poet Tom’s memory, we meet him, his mother Amanda, a faded Southern belle, and his painfully shy sister Laura.
