Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive
It’s easy to think that hunger doesn’t exist in our community, but in reality, it’s more common than you would think. One in five children living in the Bismarck-Mandan area relies on nutrition assistance. Beyond health issues, hunger can have devastating outcomes – employees become ineffective, and students lose focus in the classroom. Hunger prevents our neighbors from reaching their full potential. How can you help? On Saturday, May 13, the National Association of Letter Carriers, in partnership with MSA United Way, will hold the 29th annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. In 2019, over 55,000 pounds of food was collected locally. Letter carriers will be collecting nonperishable food items for local organizations. The collected food helps to supply local food pantries and United Way’s Backpack Program to ensure local children are fed over the weekends and when school is out of session. The food donations can be placed next to mailboxes on Saturday, May 13, and with the help of United Way volunteers, letter carriers will pick up the donations when delivering the mail that day. “Food pantries typically have a low inventory of products at this time of year. This food drive helps stock area pantries with food to be distributed to families in need right here in our own community,” said MSA United Way Executive Director, Jena Gullo. Individuals or families looking to volunteer can sign-up to help the mail carriers collect the food or sort the food for distribution to local food pantries. Available shifts can be found at https://www.volunteerbisman.com For more information or to volunteer, please call United Way at 701-255-3601.
