The Kennedy Legacy: 50 Years Later
On Nov. 5-7, ?The Kennedy Legacy: 50 Years Later? symposium at Bismarck State College explores the life and times of President John F. Kennedy. His assassination is considered to be a pivotal 20th century event that launched America into a darker era. Renowned speakers from across the country are gathering to discuss JFK?s life, career, politics, vision, and character, his mark on the space program, Cold War, Cuban missile crisis, civil rights, Vietnam, and his time in North Dakota. Clint Hill, Secret Service agent for Mrs. Kennedy, delivers the keynote address Nov. 5. Other noted speakers are author and lecturer H.W. Brands, University of Texas; Sir Lawrence Freedman, Cold War expert and professor at King?s College in London; assassination expert and researcher David Lifton; attorney Randall L. Kennedy, author of ?Race, Crime, and the Law? ? winner of the Robert F. Kennedy Book Prize; Dr. Harrison Schmitt, retired NASA astronaut, university professor and U.S. senator; Thurston Clarke, best-selling author of ?The Last Campaign?; Dr. Lorry Fenner, Warren Commission expert and director of the Conflict Records Research Center, National Defense University; and Julia Ernst, attorney who teaches constitutional law at UND School of Law. All events are at the BSC National Energy Center of Excellence. The Bismarck-Mandan Symphony performs a work commissioned for the symposium at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 7.
