Legal Assistant
POSITION PURPOSE
This position is located at our Headquarters location in Bismarck, ND and is not a remote position.
Provide legal administrative support of both general and confidential nature for to the Office of General Counsel (OGC) in the day-to-day activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Create, complete and file annual corporate reports in the various states where business is done.
- Coordinate with internal and external counsel the recording of Uniform Commercial Code financing statements for leases and leased equipment.
- Prepare confidential and privileged documents for counsel such as Business Practices Committee minutes and reports, legal opinions, employment severance agreements and investigative reports by counsel.
- Prepare the legal report to the various Boards.
- Coordinate the preparation legal audit letters.
- Coordinate first draft of documents for financial transactions, including the annual filing of post-closure financial assurance documents; revise and prepare final documents for financial closings.
- Oversee legal technology systems, such as contract management, e-discovery, and legal analytics tools.
- Coordinate, update and file the annual Grayrocks Water Use Report with Nebraska and Wyoming state agencies and environmental entities.
- Revise BEPC, DCC, PWND and PWSD Indenture documents. Coordinate and participate in the recording of indenture documents with Secretaries of State and Registers of Deed in states and counties where Basin Electric owns property and easements. Maintains charts of said recording information.
- Track various types of continuing legal education credits for all Basin Electric attorneys. Prepare and timely file reports with states where attorneys are licensed to practice.
- As delegated by General Counsel, monitor and approve expense reports of OGC staff and division managers of Environmental Services and Property and Right-of-Way.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- An associate’s degree in business or related field; and 4 years of related experience; or
- A high school diploma or equivalent (HSED or GED); and 6 years of related experience.
- Strong understanding of legal procedures and terminology.
- A valid driver's license.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS
This position requires the ability to remain in a stationary position and to move about the office building, occasional reaching below and above shoulder level, constant use of a keyboard/computer, bending, kneeling, lifting/carrying up to 10 pounds, and pushing/pulling up to 20 pounds. It also requires finger dexterity and hand coordination.

- Good understanding of legal procedures and terminology.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and a high volume of sensitive documents.
- Proficiency in legal software (e.g., matter management systems, contract lifecycle tools) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
- Strong sense of discretion and commitment to confidentiality.
